CANAMAN, CAMARINES SUR - Mangayawan Elementary School and Taculod Elementary School Annex emerged champions in the 3rd edition of Padurunongan contests. The event was sponsored by Local Government Unit of Canaman and Parasurat Bikolnon Inc. in commemoration of the town’s 429th foundation anniversary, and celebration of Language Month.
Sixth grade pupil Angecel P. Langitan of Mangayawan Elementary School defended title in Bikol Quiz against Christian A. Villamor of Poro Elementary School and Kean B. Baynas of San Francisco Elementary School, who settled for second and third place, respectively. In the tigsik contest, Niña Katrina F. Pasibe of Taculod Elementary School Annex outwitted Rachelle C. Paja of Haring Elementary School and Joanne E. Rosero of Canaman Central School, who took home second and third place, respectively.
Marissa R. Redburn, vice-president of Parasurat Bikolnon Inc., lauded the implementation of Mother Tongue Based Multi-lingual Education, and encouraged teachers to produce teaching materials and literary works which promote the local language. Aside from the championship trophy, certificate and medal, the winners received an Apolonio B. Sto. Tomas medallion, cash prize and Canaman: Gira kan Banwaan while coaches brought home a copy of Antabay sa Ortograpiya nin Bikol Sentral and An Tambobong Nin Literaturang Bikolnon folio.
Padurunongan is an annual competition which promotes local history and culture through quiz and tigsik contests among schools in Canaman District. (IPST)
